A Draw; The Alternate ending of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar

Antony and his men devise a plan to bring down the remaining few of Brutus' army. He instructs his men to charge head on with the enemies until their backs are against the edge of the canyon. Antony divides his men into three equal groups and starts towards his enemies location.

Mean while Brutus devises his own plan which involves the majority of his remaining men to stand there ground against Antony's army. However he picks out of his army who he believes to be the best archers and places them hidden on on the higher parts of the canyon.

As Antony's men approach Brutus' following, Antony gives Brutus one more chance to surrender and honor Antony as the victor. Brutus showing to much pride and confidence orders his men to attack. Antony orders his first group of men to charge. Brutus' men dwindle down even more but are victorious in defeating the first fleet. Then comes the second group killing more of Brutus men and again Brutus' army are victorious but this time only leaving Brutus and five other men. Antony and the third group casually walk towards the mighty Brutus. Antony says,"Brutus you have shown a great deal of courage surrender now or be summoned to the heavens." Brutus waves his hand madly in the air and his archers fire among the crowd killing the remainder of Antony's army and all those who stand on the battle field including Brutus and his men.

An archer returns to Rome to tell the people of the outcome in the battle. He preaches about finding better ways to settle differences and elect leaders of Rome. He tells of his belief that Rome should be run by the people for the people and that they should vote for Romes leaders. Never the less Rome is once again left without a leader.
Honor is like a mask because some people pretend to be honorable to get trust but they really aren't.

Honor is like a castle because it takes many years to build but it can be easily lost.

Antony is like a clown because he pretends to be one thing (like your friend) but he is actually plotting against you.

"Octavius, I’m older and wiser than you are. And although
we’re giving these honors to this man so that he
shares some of the blame for what we’re doing,
he’ll carry these honors like a jackass
arries gold—groaning and sweating under the load,
either led or pushed, as we direct him. Once
he’s carried our treasure where we want it, we’ll
free him of the load and turn him loose like a
jackass, to shake his ears and graze in the public pastures."

This quote is important because Antony is telling Octavius that he knows more than he does and knows that Lepidus is no smarter than Antony's horse. Also because Antony wants Octavius to look up to him instead of Lepidus by saying he is weak. Antony is trying to manipulate Octavius and says "Don’t think about Lepidus except as a means to an end." By this he meant they were just using Lepidus just to raise an army and expand their resources to make their army bigger and better. He also tries to make as many allies as possible and find out the enemy's secrets.

Simile

Honor is like a priceless vase, you try really hard to preserve it, but when you break it it's very hard to get back.

Honor is glass it is broken or it has our reflection.

Cassius is like a snake because he is coniving and doesn't have morals.

Quote:

Octavius:
You may do your will,
But he's a tried and valiant soldier.
Antony:
So is my horse, Octavius, and for that
I do appoint him store of provender.
It is a creature that I teach to fight,
To wind, to stop, to run directly on,
His corporal motion governed by my spirit,
And, in some taste, is Lepidus but so.
He must be taught and trained and bid go forth,
A barren-spirited fellow, one that feeds
On objects, arts, and imitations.

Modern Text:

Octavius:

You can do what you please,

but he is an experienced and honorable soldier.

Antony:

So is my horse Octavius

and because of it I give him whatever he wants.

I have taught him to fight,

To turn, to stop, to run in a straight line,

He moves when I tell him to,

And, in some way, so does Lepidus.

He must be taught what to do before he does it,

who is a boring man that follows

the objects and arts of others.

This excerpt describes Mark Antony's feelings toward Lepidus during a conversation between him and Octavius. Antony describes Lepidus as a follower who is only good for doing others work. This is shown when Antony compares him to a horse because he has no mind of his own and can't make decisions based on what he feels is right. Although very trustworthy and an honorable person, Antony feels that he shouldn't be in a position of power. On the other hand, Octavius, due to the respect and experience of Lepidus, feels confident in his ability to rule.

Honor Imagery

Simile: Antony is like a loyal pet who loves and honors his master. Metaphor: Cassius' voice is the poison which erodes the honor in Brutus' heart. Character Simile: Caesar is like a yummy cake; everyone wants a piece of him. -Marguerite
